Measuring CMB polarisation with the Planck HFI
نویسنده
چکیده
The Planck High Frequency Instrument (HFI) is the most sensitive instrument currently being built for the measurement of Cosmic Microwave Background anisotropies. In addition to unprecendented sensitivity to CMB temperature fluctuations, the HFI has polarisation-sensitive detectors in 3 frequency channels (143, 217 and 353 GHz), which will constrain full-sky polarised emission of the CMB and foregrounds at these frequencies. The sensitivity of the instrument will allow a clear detection of CMB polarisation signals and should yield a precise measurement of its power spectrum at all angular scales between l= 50 and l= 1000, as well as constraints on the polarised emission at larger scales where a polarised signal from inflationary gravity waves or from reionisation is expected in many cosmological scenarios.

Planck pre-launch status: The optical architecture of the HFI
The Planck High Frequency Instrument, HFI, has been designed to allow a clear unobscured view of the CMB sky through an offaxis Gregorian telescope. The prime science target is to measure the polarized anisotropy of the CMB with a sensitivity of 1 part in 10 with a maximum spatial resolution of 5 arcmin (Cl ∼ 3000) in four spectral bands with two further high-frequency channels measuring total ...
متن کاملMeasuring CMB polarisation with the Planck mission
In this paper, we discuss why and how the Planck mission, originally designed and proposed for mapping intensity fluctuations, has been revised for polarisation measurement capability as well.

We estimate the dust polarized emission in our galaxy at high galactic latitudes, which is the dominant foreground for measuring CMB polarization using the high frequency instrument (HFI) aboard Planck surveyor. We compare it with the level of CMB polarization and conclude that, for angular scales ≤ 1 • , the scalar-induced CMB polarization and temperature-polarization cross-correlation are muc...
متن کاملCosmic Background dipole measurements with Planck-High Frequency Instrument
This paper discusses the Cosmic Background (CB) dipoles observations in the framework of the Planck mission. Dipoles observations can be used in three ways: (i) It gives a measurement of the peculiar velocity of our Galaxy which is an important observation in large scale structures formation model. (ii) Measuring the dipole can give unprecedent information on the monopole (that can be in some c...

Measurements of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) allow high precision observation of the cosmic plasma at redshift z ∼1100. After the success of the NASA satellite COBE, that in 1992 provided the first detection of the CMB anisotropy, results from many ground-based and balloon-borne experiments have showed a remarkable consistency between different results and provided quantitative estimat...
